Location: Gold Canyon, AZ
Fee to camp? Yes ($15/night when I stayed)
Reservations accepted? Yes
Things I liked:
CLEAN bathrooms!
Great for stargazing.
Bighorn sheep walked right through our camp!
It’s quiet! The gates close at night, so there is no traffic coming/going.
Friendly camp hosts.
Gorgeous views.
Awesome hiking trails.
Things I disliked:
Some of the spots are pretty close together.
No shade, so it gets HOT. Yes, even in the winter months.
Additional info:
Yes, you can also camp right off Peralta Road, but here are the downsides. (IMO)
Peralta Road is very busy during the day and sees a lot of traffic, so be prepared to deal with the dust clouds from the constant flow of traffic coming/going. It can also get really noisy as there are a lot of off-road vehicles that utilize the area.
No matter which area you choose to use in Peralta Canyon, please remember to leave the area better than you found it and PACK OUT YOUR TRASH!
Happy Camping!
